TESTIMONIALS

THIS IS FOR YOU IF:

You’re a high-performer who wants to establish sustainable fueling techniques to support their career & overall health

You’re in a mental & physical space to deep-dive into your nutrition and make changes

You are open to accepting full transparency, as well as give it. Trust is earned, not given, and communication is key in working with a sports dietitian. “Just tell me what to do and I’ll do it” needs to be re-framed to “Let’s collaborate and proceed as a nutrition experiment within your own body - and do it.” Your insight is just as valuable as the dietitian’s

You understand that patience is one of the biggest factors, and nutrition is a skill that needs to be learned/practiced, not just a quick-fix

THE PROCESS

Set up a 15 minute discovery call here to share more about yourself/what are your nutrition challenges, and learn more about Christina.

Complete your intake forms (sent to your email through Healthie, a HIPAA-compliant patient portal), which should take ~10-15 minutes.

Schedule and attend your 60 minute Initial Assessment, which includes a full practitioner assessment of what your diet looks like, foundational nutrition knowledge, and you’ll walk away with a couple action-items to focus on.

Within 48 hours after your appointments, you’ll receive a session notes outlining your goals and any corresponding handouts. Between appointments, you can communicate with Christina via Healthie Chat, upload food photo logs, & track weight/symptoms.

Schedule and attend 30 minute Follow-Ups (1-4 week cadence), which are sessions where we could discuss areas that went well, need improvement, as well as advancements in your fueling. This is where the magic happens!

Frequently Asked Questions

Working with a sports dietitian may seem intimidating, but I’m here as a resource to help you better understand the process.

  • A: I am a Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD), which means that I uphold the highest standards of sports dietetics by passing my board exams and maintain continuing education and ethical training.

  • A: It is dependent per client, but can range anywhere from 3 months to years. Typically, we’ll start with weekly sessions, and space out to bi-weekly, and then monthly sessions. Unless there are special circumstances (ex: vacation, family emergencies, sabbaticals, etc), sessions are no longer than 4 weeks apart for optimal client success.

  • A: HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) was passed in 1996 to ensure that a patient’s health information (PHI) would be protected in a consistent/secure manner by health professionals, like doctors, dietitians, nurses, dentists, etc. TL;DR - your personal and medical information will not be shared publicly. This covers all functions, including chat, food log, document sharing in the Healthie app. Any client-initiated communication that may occur via email, text, phone call, social media, What’s App etc is not protected under HIPAA.

  • A: Macro tracking could be a tool in our fueling toolbox, but clients are not required to track macros. A majority of clients track via food photos, which can be logged in the Healthie app. This keeps you accountable, allows me to see what you're actually eating (& then interpret the direct food photo vs interpret your interpretation of your macros), and can be a lot less time-consuming/accessible for you!

  • A: No, as I would need to do a full assessment and take into account how you currently eat , your progression towards your goals, schedule, food literacy, and more.

Meal plans in isolation rarely work for sustainable changes, and I want to see you succeed! While my clients may receive a fueling template/timeline in their session notes, building flexibility and adaptability around it is where skills are developed and sustained for lifelong changes.

Humans are not robots - we have unpredictable days/variable needs, which your nutrition needs to accommodate that a one-time meal plan cannot.

  • A: I currently do not accept insurance, but you can use your HSA/FSA card for these appointments. Additionally, I can provide a SuperBill for you, which does require you to submit payment first, but you may submit it to your insurance company to potentially receive reimbursement. If this was of interest, please bring it up during your 15 minute discovery call here. It is your responsibility to check your benefits and coverage with your insurance provider.

  • A: To ensure that you’re getting the best service, please:

Show up on time, and in a quiet environment with good wifi connection. Sessions while driving, commuting, or while in the background of another meeting are unacceptable.

Come prepared with questions or observations and ask for clarification during the appointment if needed.

Be open and honest. Nutrition is a vulnerable topic for many, but to withhold the truth or hide information can delay progress. This time is for you and is a safe space for any/all conversation and you are not being judged for anything you say (we all eat dessert so it’s okay to say if you had some ice cream!).

Review your session notes that will be uploaded within 48 hours after your appointment, and refer back to it if you need a refresher on your goals.

Chat the sports dietitian with any questions you have between appointments. If it does warrant a more in-depth response/analysis, the dietitian may save it for your next session to fully dive into the prompt and give you the best answer possible! There are no “dumb” questions - use the resources you’re investing in!

Be open to feedback, making changes, building self-awareness, and to make mistakes. Building your fueling skillset is a journey, and it is not about perfection, but rather, progress/effort.

Be yourself, trust the process, practice patience, and recognize any/all wins!

  • A: Absolutely not! Fueling works around your food preferences, choices, accessibility, and budget. All foods can & should fit into an athlete’s diet, especially when considering the sustainability of your actions. As the practitioner, I will always encourage you to try new foods and expand your palette, but there will never be any force-feeding, shaming, guilt-tripping, or any other unproductive modalities.

  • A: My philosophy is performance/health first, weight second (with the exception of weight-class athletes like BJJ, MMA, wrestling, boxing, who need to be a certain weight to compete in their sport but certainly do need to perform at a high level too). A lower weight doesn’t always mean better performance or health, and there are other measurements that have greater value to human performance than the number on the scale. Successful “weight-loss” clients under my guidance build a healthy relationship with their bodies & food which may ultimately result in a desirable body composition changes, but how they feel/perform and the sustainability of habits is what triumphs.
